Q: Does Speaking Email Deluxe work with Internet connection sharing or LAN connections or similar.

A: Yes, Microsoft Internet connection sharing is fully compatible with Speaking Email Deluxe. The main thing to remember is, if your normal email program works over your ICS or LAN, then Speaking Email Deluxe will too. You don't need to set any proxy settings etc. this is just like a standard email program and uses just the same communication methods.

Q: Will Speaking Email Deluxe work with MSN and HOTMAIL accounts

A: We aren't sure at the moment whether it will work with MSN accounts, but we are aware that HOTMAIL users can pay a fee to Microsoft to enable POP3 access to their accounts. To be honest, you would be better off getting a Yahoo account, which is free to use POP3 with.

Q: How do I get POP3 mail from my Yahoo.com account?

A: Log in to your Yahoo account has you normally would via the web. Now click on the Options link which is in the list to the left hand site. Once you have clicked on Options, then you need to click on POP access and Forwarding which is now in the middle of main page. In this window, select the section that says Web and Pop access and select the text at the bottom of the page which says Text messages only (not the HTML option!). Now click on Submit. Yahoo will now show you all you need to know to configure Speaking Email Deluxe. Just go in to the Settings tab on Speaking Email Deluxe, go to the bottom section which is all about POP3 settings and enter the details you have in the same boxes. Q: Why do I keep getting an 'ERROR 52, socket write error?'

A: Many people email me asking me why they are getting this error. This could mean one of the following, Your POP3 password is incorrect, your POP3 server address is incorrect, your POP3 username is incorrect or your POP3 account is being used by another program. Please try the following.

Start up your normal email program, now create/add a new email account. Use the EXACT same details that you are using in Speaking Email Deluxe to set up the POP3 account in your normal email program.

Now try to check your account with your email program. Does it check it? the answer is probably NO, which means you are entering something incorrectly. Please DOUBLE and TRIPLE check your server settings and more importantly, you POP3 password, then try again.

Q: How do I find my POP3 account settings from Outlook Express?

A: Start Outlook Express, then click on 'Tools' from the tool bar at the top. Select 'Accounts' from the drop down list that appears.

You will now see an Internet Accounts window appear. Click on the 'MAIL' tab in this new window to show your email accounts list.

Locate the entry in the list that has (default) by it and DOUBLE CLICK IT.

A new window show come up. In here, click on the 'Servers' tab at the top. You should now see your POP3 information.

This is what you need, Write down what is written in the Incoming mail (POP3) box and also write down what is written in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) box.

Also write down what is written in the 'Account Name' box. You won't be able to see your password, so you will need to remember what you password is.

Now go in to the Settings tab (right hand side) of Speaking Email Deluxe. Near the bottom of this window,  you will see 'POP3 account settings'.

In the Friendly name box, enter any text you want, that refers to this email account. e.g. 'My email'.

In the POP3 server box, enter the Incoming Mail (POP3) text that you wrote down from Outlook Express.

In the POP3 User Name box, enter the text you wrote down from the 'Account Name' box of Outlook Express.

In the POP3 password box, you will need to enter your POP3 password. You will need to either remember this password, or telephone your ISP and ask them for a new one because you have forgotten your old one.

Q: The on line logger doesn't seem to be working, what's wrong?

A: The online logger will ONLY WORK if you are using a Dial Up Connection. If you have select the 'Permanent connection' option in settings, then the logger won't work. This is because when you have a DSL or Cable modem connection which is always on, the logger would just keep on logging, hour upon hour.

Q: I always get the message 'cannot connect the email engine, you could have problems checking for e-mail. then: Error:-71 see attach not called'. How can I fix this?

A: You need to delete a file from your computer. Do a search (in windows) for a file called see32.dll

You probably get TWO version of the file appear in the search window. You need to delete the file that IS NOT 71KB in size. If you are unsure, then just delete the OLDEST file which is probably in c:\windows\system

This should solve your problem.

Q: When setting up Speaking Email Deluxe, it asks for all kinds of account information. Can you give me an example of what to enter?

A: Start up Speaking Email Deluxe and then click on the 'SETTINGS' tab at the right hand side.

Near the bottom of the new window, you will see 4 text entry boxes asking for Friendly name, POP3 server, POP3 Username and POP3 password.

In the Friendly Name box, you can enter anything you like. This will be spoken to you when the character is telling you what email you have waiting. E.g. You have 3 messages waiting on FRIENDLY NAME

In the POP3 server box, you need to enter the address or IP address of your ISP's POP3 server. It could look something like pop3.myisp.net or mail.myisp.net

In the POP3 user name box, you need to enter your login or user name that you use to get your email. This is quite often the same username or login name that you use when you are dialing up to your ISP.

In the POP3 password box, you need to enter the password that you use to get your email. As above, this is quite often the same password that you use to login to your ISP.

Q: Since downloading an update, I get the error 'Unexpected error' What do I do now?

A: This is a problem with the MsAgent core file. Here is a work around to get you going. Perform a search using windows for the following file (make sure ALL MsAgent programs are NOT RUNNING) 'agentctl.dll' . When the search has completed, you should see at least 1 file showing. now DELETE all instances of agentctl.dll

When you have done this, go to the installation folder for Speaking Email Deluxe, c:\program files\speaking email deluxe and DOUBLE CLICK the file called agent.exe. This will RE INSTALL the MsAgent core files and should fix the error you are getting.

Q: I get this error on screen some times, Max (or another name) is not listening, Speech input is not available in English

A: RIGHT click the character and choose 'Alter Character Properties'. Now click on the Speech Input tab at the top of the new window. In here, UN CHECK the box that says 'Characters listen for input'.

The reason you get this message is because you don't have a Speech Recognition Engine installed. If you want to download a free Speech Recognition engine then Click Here to connect to the Microsoft download site. The download is approx. 6MB in size. UK Speaking Clock does support speech recognition but it is not essential or required.

A: First of all not all characters have sound effects. E.g. Max doesn't have sound effects but Merlin does.

Turn turn the sound effects on, make sure that the 'Characters sound effects enabled' option in the Character tab of Speaking Email Deluxe is ENABLED. If it is enabled and you still don't have sound effects then try this.

Go in to the Character tab of Speaking Email Deluxe. Now look for a button at the right hand top, just below the TEST button. It will say Click here to alter *character's* properties. Click on the button and the MsAgent character window will appear. In here go to the  'Output' tab and make sure that the 'Play character sound effects' option is ENABLED.
