Q: My modem is a Caller
ID modem, my modem is a VOICE modem and I do subscribe
to my Telephone companies caller ID service, but I don't get any
caller ID info when a call comes in using the Who's Calling software,
why?
Answer: Telephone companies send
Caller ID information across the phone line in a variety of formats.
This means that system designed to work with one format may work with
one telephone company but will fail to work with another.

Q: How can I tell whether my modem is set up
correctly with my computer?
Answer, this isn't an easy thing to do. You are obviously having
trouble getting caller ID information or getting any kind of use from
Who's Calling if you are reading this section.
1] If your modem is detecting incoming calls, but isn't showing any
caller ID info for the callers, then read on. If your modem isn't
working full stop with Who's Calling, then read the next section.
First of all,
all about the Caller ID side of things. If you have done the test
described in that section and the Caller ID DID work, then please email UK
Software and tell them what's happening. If you did the test, but the
Caller ID didn't work, then it seems your modem just won't work
with your Telco's Caller ID service. Maybe you should consider an
upgrade to a new compatible modem.
2] If your modem just won't work with Who's Calling, then you should
try the following.
Go to the web site of your modem manufacturer. Locate the latest
drivers on that site for your particular modem and download them.
Now follow the instructions which come with the new drivers on how to
install them. When you have installed the new drivers, you will need to
RE SELECT your modem in the settings area of Who's Calling.
If you still can't get Caller ID information, or even use the modem
with Who's Calling, them unfortunately there isn't much more that you
can do.
Maybe you should consider a modem upgrade to a newer and better
modem.

Q: Which modems do you recommend to use
with Who's Calling?
As a general rule when selecting a modem to work with Who's Calling,
if you live in the UK, then you have a very very limited choice of
modems, however if you're in the USA, then almost all modems will work
for you. In the UK, we recommend using a CTI Meteor CallerID plug from
here, or
there are a lot of reports that some ZOOM modems support UK CallerID.

Q: Does Who's
Calling support Caller ID for my country? A:
Caller ID doesn't need to know where you live, it will work in ANY
country. It completely depends on whether YOUR MODEM will support the
caller ID service of your country. Most modems support Caller ID for the
USA and Canada. For other countries, make sure your modem is
specifically designed to work with your countries Caller ID service. If
in doubt, call the modem manufacturer and ask them before you buy it.

Q: When I try to add an
entry to the Directory from the incoming call list, it fails with an
error
A: This could happen if you are using a Rochelle
caller ID plug or a modem that reverses the name and number fields. Try
going in to settings and then clicking on the 'Settings' tab. Now check
(tick) the option 'Swap incoming name and number data'. Now wait for a
new call to come in and then try to add it to the directory again.
